Course Description

Beginning String Techniques introduces students to topics related to bowed string instrument techniques. Students will gain experience through large group, small group, and individual collaborations. Primary tools for learning course materials include in-class and homework assignments and presentations. Assessments include homework assignments, tests and quizzes, as well as individual and collaborative projects. Beginning String Techniques: Objectives and Outcomes Aurally, orally, and visually identify and manipulate fundamental elements of music; Orally, aurally, and visually recognize, audiate, and manipulate rhythmic and melodic examples; Sight-read musical examples; Notate rhythmic patterns from dictation; Improvise call and response patterns Compose melodies, rhythmic patterns, and/or accompaniments within given guidelines; Develop ensemble skills Additional music skills students will develop include active and critical listening and responding, reading and writing using traditional Western music notation and other notation systems, and music research skills.
