Course Description

In this introductory Latin course students first review English grammar and are then introduced to Latin vocabulary and grammar with an emphasis on verb forms and noun cases and uses. Students learn how to read, analyze, translate and comprehend simple Latin stories. They are also introduced to the geography of the Mediterranean World; Greco-Roman mythology; Roman history; and Roman daily life. Students are required to keep an accurate notebook which aids in note-taking skills and is a valuable tool for use in their Latin studies in subsequent years. Students are tested on vocabulary and grammar in the context of Latin stories. Engaging projects are assigned each term. Material is taught from Jenney's First Year Latin and the Suburani textbooks.
