Course Description

This course introduces the basics of Japanese language and culture focusing on the practical use of the language and cultural awareness. Students will learn Hiragana and Katakana characters for writing and reading and will develop basic communication skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. They will also learn approximately 50 Kanji (Chinese characters). Both traditional and contemporary Japanese culture culture and society through various materials and activities will also be introduced. This course requires good study habits and class participation.
