Course Description
Students review Latin grammar as they translate selections from various authors. Students translate selections from Eutropius' history, Cicero's First Speech against Catiline and learn the structure of classical speech, figures of speech, and the rudiments of Latin prose style. Roman history of the Republican period, along with its institutions is studied. During the second half of the year, other authors such as Pliny the Younger and Vergil are introduced. The history of the Empire is reviewed briefly, and students read selections from Vergil's Aeneid and learn about scansion and stylistic conventions of poetry. By June of this year, students are well prepared to take the SAT II in Latin. It is highly recommended that they do so.Student Voice
